NEWS FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR

On January 10, 2013 the Oceana County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a building and renovation project totaling $5,085,000.00. The building and renovation project encompasses the following: 1. Adding one of our existing wings onto the Alzheimer’s Unit (AU). This will provide for 17 additional beds to the AU bringing the total to 35 beds. We currently have over 25 people on a waiting list for the AU; 2. The part of building that was built back in 1965 needs to be renovated and upgraded. This includes a new roof, plumbing, windows, and remodeling. The creation of Private Rooms will be included; 3. Renovation and expansion of the Resident’s Main Dinning Room; 4. Adding new construction of 16 rooms to the north east side of the building. We believe that the increased number of beds to the AU and the new renovations will help us to better meet the needs of the residents of Oceana County.

There are several hurdles we must jump over before we can break ground. First, is the completion and subsequent approval of the Certificate of Need that we must file with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). This process takes about 6 months from the date of filling for approval. Once the approval is granted by MDCH, we will begin the bidding process for an architect and construction services. We have to have the Certificate of Need completed and filed by March 1, 2013.
